A review of Aerosmith's Global Warming tour at Summerfest - Examiner.com

This past Saturday night, Aerosmith and Cheap Trick played their Global Warming tour in the Marcus Amphitheater at Summerfest. The concert ran from 8-11:45 with Aerosmith starting at about 9:30.

The Amphitheater was absolutely packed with fans of all ages who loved both bands. Cheap Trick ended with "Goodnight", which left fans cheering for more. Lead guitarist Rick Nielsen brought out the famous five-neck guitar for the final song and both Cheap Trick and Aerosmith wore elaborate classic rock outfits for the event.

Aerosmith performed less classic hits and a more modern songs, but didn't fail in playing the famous crowd-pleasers Walk This Way midway through the set and Dream On as part of the encore. Lead singer Steven Tyler was very high-energy throughout the concert as he danced, kicked, and shared the microphone with nearby fans. Beginning the night in a floor-length coat, bandana, sunglasses, and vest and ending only in his pants and tank top, Tyler gave it his all and didn't lower his enthusiasm or drop his rock persona for a second.

Steven Tyler shared the spotlight with all band members, with each having their own solo alone onstage. While Joe Perry was a strong presence throughout the concert and had an amazing solo, one of the highlights was drummer Joey Kramer's solo. He first performed a standard drum solo with Steven Tyler appearing to join in on the same drum set for a few moments. Then, once the crowd thought he'd finished, Kramer resumed using only his bare fists, and occasionally his head. The crowd was awestruck and amazed at the drummer's strength and talent during this solo.

Another definite highlight of the concert was the first song of the encore, Dream On. A white grande piano was quickly brought onstage where Steven Tyler played the classic tune and crowds went crazy and sang along. Both Perry and Tyler got up on the piano to perform and smoke blasted on either side of Tyler as he belted out the extended note before the chorus.

All in all, the Global Warming Tour at Summerfest was an amazing concert. Although some classic hits such as Cryin', I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, and Angel were left out, audience members were always on their feet and left thoroughly entertained. Once again, Cheap Trick and Aerosmith showed that they can still rock, even forty years after their beginnings.
