Global warming response - Northwest Herald

To the Editor:

I have to respond to Howard Harris’ “Global warming reality” letter (July 7). First, this is not a political argument, as you misstated. The actual scientific question is: Is global warming or climate change manmade?

Most Republicans deal in facts, and as yet there are no facts to support the argument that man is contributing significantly to climate change.

One fact is that when the Vikings discovered Greenland, it was green, and they were able to farm there before global cooling covered them in ice and froze them out. Now this is before hydrocarbons were known, so, yes, we can prove that global warming and cooling is natural and cyclical and is not significantly manmade (population explosion?).

We believe that a lot of academics make your case in order to further their own ambitions to obtain government grants so they can study a nonexistent problem and have been caught falsifying their results and data to support their position. These people have created a political conflict by creating unnecessary laws that were enacted to restrict people’s use of energy and purchasing habits.

If you believe that man is one of the main causes, then I suggest that you start riding your bicycle and turn off your air conditioner to reduce pollutants you believe are the source, rather than telling us to do so.

Put your money where your mouth is and stop telling us how we should live our lives. Concentrate on your own behavior and stop calling people with differing beliefs stupid.
