For decades now scientist and debates have been circled around the idea of global warming taking effect around the world. With the crazy weather we are having this year, particularly this summer, the idea of global warming seems to gain a lot more attention now. This summer there have been terrible out of control wildfires, countless amount of heat waves, long suffering droughts, some major flooding and even severe storms.
These type of conditions may be the start of global experts have been predicting, although they are not ready to admit it yet, saying that it is much too early to tell if these current conditions are in direct results of global warming. This summer has been loaded with dangerously record breaking temperatures around the United States, over 3,000 record high temperatures were reported last month alone according to MSN.
Two-Thirds of the US population has already been in severe heat weather areas since May 2012. While there are certainly a lot of global warming skeptics the data is starting to add up and make people ask the question, âAre the extreme weather conditions a cause of Global Warming?â
âThis is what global warming looks like at the regional or personal level,âJonathan Overpeckof said who is a Professor of Geosciences and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change actually warned that the United States were on track to have an unprecedented summer of extreme weather and climate events. They knew the possibilities of the type of weather conditions we are having now, as far as disasters go though who knows if they knew of the devastation these climate changes have caused Americans.
The powerful deadly storm that blew across the Chicago area not only caused millions of people affected by power outage as it made it way all the way to Washington, it also took the lives of 20 individuals in the process. According to experts this was not your normal thunderstorm you are accustom of seeing or hearing about in the summer time. Experts mentioned in a statement that the thunderstorm that occurred just last week was actually 5 time more powerful than normal storms according to the associated press.
With these triple digit temperatures scorching the US scientist are saying the US is starting to have vastly more heat records, than cold weather records. Right now the US is having seven heat records to every one cold record, looking forward to the future the ratio may get all the way up to 20 heat record to every one cold record according to the associated press.
âIn the future you can expect larger, longer more intense heat waves and weâve seen that in the last few summers,â NOAA Climate Monitoring chief Derek Arndt said in a statement to the associated press.
The Truth About Global Warming â" Science & Distortion â" Stephen Schneider
Stephen Henry Schneider (February 11, 1945 â" July 19, 2010) was Professor of Environmental Biology and Global Change at Stanford University, a Co-Director at the Center for Environment Science and Policy of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and a Senior Fellow in the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment. Schneider served as a consultant to federal agencies and White House staff in the Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations.
His research included modeling of the atmosphere, climate change, and âthe relationship of biological systems to global climate change.â Schneider was the founder and editor of the journal Climatic Change and authored or co-authored over 450 scientific papers and other publications. He was a Coordinating Lead Author in Working Group II IPCC TAR and was engaged as a co-anchor of the Key Vulnerabilities Cross-Cutting Theme for the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) at the time of his death. During the 1980s, Schneider emerged as a leading public advocate of sharp reductions of greenhouse gas emissions to combat global warming.
