Perhaps Global Warming was Sent by God - Seattle Post Intelligencer (blog)

After 3-years of reading GW denial material, I’m entertaining the idea that it might be God’s Plan for the planet. (I’m thinking of an Einstein definition of God, a force behind everything, that is beyond our ken.)

First, we note that God sent his troops forth in the GW denial movement; it is religious in nature and has been very successful, thereby assuring that if the climate science is right, we are due for GW in all its glory. This is most likely to create a mass extinction era, with Homo sapiens just one of the species to vanish.

This may be God’s plan for “Progress” â€" getting rid of one species that has maxed out, making way for another.

There is archaeological evidence for the evolution of a human “super-brain” no later than 75,000 years ago that spurred a modern capacity for novelty and invention, according to John Hoffecker, an archaeologist at the University of Colorado. He suggests that Artificial Intelligence might take over.

Stephen Hawking agrees that the old brain is obsolete, but hopes that evolution might supplement the slow evolution of DNA with new techniques of expanding the brain (sometimes called replacing the genes with memes). The libraries and the internet furnish vast realms of information, provided we can separate the facts from the garbage.

In either case, it is necessary to get rid of the old brains that have led our evolution into a blind alley, dominated by lust, power and greed.

So maybe, as deniers have suggested, we can’t do anything about it (since it’s “God’s Plan”) and just sit back and enjoy it. The first stages of the warmth will be welcomed by our generation anyway.
