Icon of "global warming" renounces the theory he developed that is a ... - Beaufort Observer

One of the Fathers of Global Warming has confessed that he, along with many of the Lemmings who followed him, were wrong. Don Surber, writing in the UK Daily Mail says:

Who is the latest global warming skeptic? James Lovelock, the man who 40 years ago helped develop the Gaia hypothesis. Just 6 years ago, James Lovelock forecast gloom and doom about the Earth just 6 years ago in a fanciful article in the London newspaper, the Independent. Mankind would die off by the billions. Only a few survivors would be left, surviving in the Arctic area, which is odd since the Arctic is an ocean, not a continent.

From James Lovelock: "By failing to see that the Earth regulates its climate and composition, we have blundered into trying to do it ourselves, acting as if we were in charge. By doing this, we condemn ourselves to the worst form of slavery. If we chose to be the stewards of the Earth, then we are responsible for keeping the atmosphere, the ocean and the land surface right for life. A task we would soon find impossible â€" and something before we treated Gaia so badly, she had freely done for us."

This week, he updated that.

Nevermind.

From James Lovelock: "The problem is we don't know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books â€" mine included â€" because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn't happened. The climate is doing its usual tricks. There's nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now. The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time… it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising â€" carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that."

It turns out Gaia is much bigger than the ant farm we humans developed.

Sorry about that.

Here's the keys to your SUV back.

From MSNBC:

However, the professor admitted in a telephone interview with msnbc.com that he now thinks he had been "extrapolating too far."

The new book, due to be published next year, will be the third in a trilogy, following his earlier works, "Revenge of Gaia: Why the Earth Is Fighting Back â€" and How We Can Still Save Humanity," and "The Vanishing Face of Gaia: A Final Warning: Enjoy It While You Can."

The new book will discuss how humanity can change the way it acts in order to help regulate the Earth's natural systems, performing a role similar to the harmonious one played by plants when they absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen.

New book. New science. That'll be $19.98. Like the shamans of yore, frauds like James Lovelock and Al Gore have been peddling tall tales for years. One claims to have invented the microwave oven, the other the Internet. They pick their marks wisely, the young and naive â€" buttering them by telling them how smart and scientific they are for reading "Earth In Balance" and the like. That'll be $19.98.

This is what he wrote in 2006 to sucker lefties:

Meanwhile, North Carolina has a "committee" studying the issue right now and they are proposing regulations based on the theories that Lovelock postulated that he now renounces. Question is, will the N. C. Coastal Resources Commission Sea Level Rise panel follow suit?
