It's just weather, not global warming - York Daily Record

I wanted to address a letter in the Daily record on Aug. 18 by Steve Izzo. I have to take issue with your assertion the drought in the Midwest has anything whatsoever to do with so-called "global warming." I would ask if global warming accounts for the dry spell there today, what was the cause of the drought in the Midwest during the  '30s nearly 80 years ago?

I would suggest that it's something that most rational people call weather.

This planet is billions of years old and weather patterns change over time. Not every single bad weather event in the world is caused by global warming. It makes no sense to change our entire way of life on an unproven theory like global warming. When I was growing up and going through elementary school, we were being taught that the world was heading back into another ice age. Now we're being told by many of the same people that we are having global warming. I wish these people would make up their minds.

The truth of the matter is that the greens have an agenda, and it's all about forcing their views on the rest of us. This whole notion that you could power a country like America on so-called renewables is completely false. A little reality check is in order here, I believe. What do you do for power when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow? You keep the lights on by backup coal and natural gas fired power plants.

The truth of the matter is that the technology for renewables just isn't there yet. Government should not be in the business of trying to pick winners and losers in the marketplace. The free market should determine what energy sources we use, not the government.
