Rapper Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas showed up to a global warming conference in a helicopter.

Is Will.I.Am’s pledge to fight global warming a bunch of hot air?

The Black Eyed Peas rapper, song writer and producer took a helicopter from London to Oxford University to attend an environmental conference on May 21, apparently leaving a larger carbon footprint than anyone else in attendance, according to news reports.

The 286-mile round trip consumed 71.5 gallons of fuel and belched three quarters of a ton of CO2, The Telegraph reported.

The 37-year-old superstar did make one concession to Mother Nature: After landing, he pedaled from his chopper to the conference, where he met with eco-experts for an hour.

“The irony didn’t escape everybody,” Oxford Uniphysics professor Myles Allen told the Daily Star, “but he’s committed to the issues and he’s written songs about it.”

The conference focused on the "Weathernome Project," which calls itself "the world's largest climate forecasting experiment for the 21st century."

Will also appears, based on pictures he posted on Twitter, to have taken the chopper to the British town of Taunton, where he carried the Olympic torch as part of the relay.

Will.I.Am. has not commented.
