May 25 Letters: Green subsidies, officers on patrol, global warming - Daily Press

Green is a color. It has come to have a meaning. It means be kind to the earth; support ethanol, solar, wind and global warming and probably PETA. It means protect our natural treasurers.

My favorite color was always green. I built a solar house. I got the maximum tax credit. That meant that I was a success!

Then I started to think. That tax credit was paid by other people's taxes even if they may support solar power. Then I did some research; ethanol, solar, and wind are only cost-effective with tax subsidy.

Daily Press introduces Daily Savvy Deals. Sign Up now to receive offers that are 50% off or more!

Now, I find that preserving our natural treasures means prohibiting oil, gas, coal or nuclear production on federal properties. This causes us to pay high energy costs and depend on overseas suppliers.

My favorite color is now black. I want nothing to do with green. I support oil and coal and the elimination of government subsidies.

In the past week there have been three instances [in which] a police officer (alone) has been involved in altercations â€" two beaten by those they were chasing/arresting.

Is it just a budget decision to have these officers operate alone? The military, Boy Scouts, moms and dads all teach folks to go out in at least pairs.Yet, we have officers (local and state) seemingly finding themselves working alone and we have seen tragic results....

The concerns many people have about global warming from industrial [as well as] and other pollutants are rather twisted. Yes, there could be some global rise in heart, but the sun might be the ciulprit, too. It is starting to burn out.

For that matter [â€" depending on which climate scientist you askâ€"] there's significant evidence that this planet isn't getting any hotter either.

The one thing that's surely going up as a result of the politics of this issue: inflation.

The cars we drive are substantially more expensive because of the filtration systems to control emissions. Foods and other products we comsunme are also pricier because of processes used to ensure ecological safety.
